Meet Namita Mehta

Originally from New Delhi, India, I hold a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree from Manipal University, Karnataka. Like many passionate about health and sport, my journey began at home – with a strong desire to help people recover, move better, and return to doing what they love.

After completing my undergraduate studies, I moved to Australia to further my education and career, earning a double Master's in Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy from the University of South Australia in Adelaide. Subsequently, I became an Australian-titled Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist. This title can only be applied for and received after working for five years in Sports and Musculoskeletal physiotherapy following the completion of a Master's degree.

This experience opened doors to work across private and public sectors, as well as in Elite Sports Physiotherapy and Teaching. Over the last 16 years, I have worked and gained experience in the private practice sector and traveled with several sports teams to cover national and International championships. Over the years, I have been fortunate to also work with Para sports in vision-impaired, physical disability, and intellectual disability categories, and it has been an absolute joy and gratifying experience to work with all these teams.

In the public sector, over the past few years, I have had the opportunity to work as an Advanced Practice Physiotherapist. This role is only open to candidates with more than seven years of clinical practice experience. Advanced Practice Physiotherapists, also known as Extended Scope Physiotherapists, are experienced in assessing, diagnosing, and managing complex musculoskeletal and orthopedic conditions, often in roles traditionally held by doctors, and are frequently seen in specialist medical settings. I have had the opportunity to work across several of these clinics, including the Emergency Department, Soft Tissue Injury, Virtual Fracture, Neurosurgery, and Osteoarthritis clinics, working alongside Emergency Department consultants, orthopedic consultants, and neurosurgeons.

My Approach

I believe in addressing the root cause of the problem, not just its symptoms. Contrary to popular belief, physiotherapy is not just all about hands-on therapy—it's much more than that!

It's about understanding the injury pattern from the patient's history and piecing together the puzzle to make the correct diagnosis and treatment plan, along with a clear prognosis for the injury. My approach involves extensive clinical reasoning and diagnostic skills to formulate the proper rehabilitation plan, which may or may not include manual therapy.

Strengthening is the key ingredient in returning to pre-injury levels. My approach involves using evidence-based knowledge to help you achieve your goals and return to your pre-injury levels in sports or daily life.

How It All Started

Hammr Physiotherapy is a tribute to my grandfather, who was my idol and was himself a National-level Athlete in Boxing and Track and Field. Hence, Hammr Physiotherapy gets its name from my grandfather's name, Hakumatrai Mehta, from whom I derived the initials to create this online Sports and Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy venture, carrying forward his legacy in sports.
